The number of Americans submitting new claims for joblessness benefits increased modestly recently, however labor market conditions remained to tighten up.
Initial claims for state welfare rose 3,000 to a seasonally changed 271,000 for the week ended June 20, the Labor Department said on Thursday.
Claims for the previous week were changed to show 1,000 more applications got than previously reported. It was the 16th straight week that claims held listed below 300,000, a limit normally associated with a firming labor market.
