Weekly home loan applications fall in spite of low rates

Home loan rates dropped last week to their least expensive level given that May 2013, but house buyers today are not responding.

A favorable beginning to profits period helped the marketplaces make a modest recuperation after a 2 day losing streak.

On the financial front, the Mortgage Bankers Association is reporting an 11.7 percent boost in regular home loan applications recently, despite a jump in interest rates.

Wine business Constellation Brands (STZ) beat earnings expectations and upped its projection for the fiscal year.

Morgan Stanley (MS) announced plans to layoff 1,600 staff members in its investment banking unit and the business will apparently stress more senior workers. Last year, the bank reduced about 6 percent of its labor force.
