I don’t get it. So why do we fail to have a great career? Because we always
have a “way out”?
This camera is very tiring.
This guy should be the next Batman villain. I can picture him now. Trapping
Batman, then sitting him tied up in a chair. And walking back and forth
telling Batman, how he will never have a great career. And Batman crying
saying, “Stop it…Enough!”
Great we al know this..no reason for him to be the evil joker
I find this guy too faddy, pessimistic and vague on what he wants to
convey. Even when trying to see past it, I get demotivated. People change,
aswell as goals, dreams and circumstances. There are things you can control
and make the most of, and things beyond your control. As long as you stand
up for the choices you’ve made and don’t whine about it I don’t see a
problem. The notion of failure is pretty subjective anyway…
I advise you to read the works of Aleister Crowley. At least the Book Of
The Law – it’s basically the same topic expressed in a different way. Very
helpful ;)
This speech was… Very misleading and clever. This man dressed optimism in
pessimism so well you don’t know what’s what until the end.
I think he’s trying to say you don’t have a great career becasue deep down
you really don’t want one enough. Also that there are myriad of
opportunities missed due to self sabotage not just for a career but for
happiness in general.
This guy said something optimistic in a pessimistic way that still manages
to register as optimistic.
I think this pertains to a lot of women. They fear of success, especially
career success, and hide behind their husbands and his accomplishments by
saying that their only goal in life as women is to be a stay at home
mother. This is an excuse for them to not use their brain to development
their own acccomplishments in life. They rather cower behind the safety net
of a home. You can be a mother, and still have a career, even if it is a
part-time career. Being a mother doesn’t mean that you don’t work AT ALL.
So he is saying, Don’t be afraid and just go for it but even if you fail
there are other choices out there?
Give this guy a sith robe and call him Darth Smith of the TED.

This guy is phenomenal as long as you really dig his style. I do and can
easily say this is one of the most worthwhile TED videos I’ve ever seen.
I think he has valid points. He is a little dark and aggressive but that to
me was oddly refreshing. My impression is that he is trying to point out
very common issues people create for themselves to void failure, wasting
time or just having a fear of change. I don’t think he is saying not to
have children or to not try for a career but rather to stop using the world
as a reason to not pursue ones desire. I also think he hints at the fact
that not pursuing a passion, an idea or a desire can be passed down to the
younger generation. I also think that he, in his way, is saying stop
finding reasons to not do things, anything really, and maybe try finding
reasons to do them.
So is this guy the voice actor for Lester from GTA V orrrrr….

Everyone who thinks this guy is being a pessimist or not conveying this in
the right tone has missed the entire point. He’s an economist, if you look
at the likelihood of succeeding they are extremely low. For example, 85
people have the same amount of money as the poorest half of the world. He
has taught and coached enough people to see why people fail and he’s simply
sharing that. If your going to succeed you will understand what he’s saying
before you succeed.
How inspirational! That’s it, I’ve made up my mind. I’m leaving my wife
and kids and joining The Blue Man Group!!!

Im 13 and the only passion I think I have is to play video games really but
no one supports it. Im shit at everything else and alot the time games. I
have no skills.
Doesn’t the standard “follow your passion” advice need to a caveat on
whether the passion generate an income? There are lots of hungry but
passionate environmentalists out there.
I still don’t understand what’s the point in the question of What I can not
do? Shouldn’t we ask what we can do better?
